SCOTT DANIELSON

Doctoral Student in Moral Psychology

Home: Welcome

MY BIO

I am a first year Ph.D. student at the University of Canterbury. My interests are in how people form moral judgments and why people disagree about right and wrong. I earned my B.S. in neuroscience and behavioral biology, and philosophy from Emory University and my M.A. in social science (psychology) from the University of Chicago. Aside from research, I am interested in interactive fiction: how things like video games and Dungeons and Dragons can challenge us to think differently.

PAST EXPERIENCE

Past Roles

PHD STUDENT, UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY

November 2019 - Present

My work focuses on moral judgment, including the roots of moral divides like the liberal and conservative split in American politics and culture. I am also interested in dehumanization and why it seems easier to victimize anonymous victims.

RESEARCH ANALYST, CENTER FOR PRACTICAL WISDOM

February 2017 - June 2019

At the University of Chicago's Center for Practical Wisdom my research projects involved questions of the effect of humanities education on improving wise reasoning and how thinking carefully about your choices can make you a better decision maker.
